Thought from James Baldwin (1962)

Try to imagine how you would feel if you woke up one morning to find the sun shining and all the stars aflame. You would be frightened because it is out of the order of nature. Any upheaval in the universe is terrifying because it so profoundly attacks one's sense of one's own reality. Well, the black man has functioned in the white man's world as a fixed star, as an immovable pillar: and as he moves out of his place, heaven and earth are shaken to their foundations. -- James Baldwin (1962)

About This Site

Engaging our community in opposing racism – and advancing equity for Indigenous, Black, and people of color – through education, policy change, and reparations.

In the spring of 2020 a consensus grew in the town of Richmond, Vermont that more — much more — attention needed to be paid to the question of racial equity, both in our town and around the nation.   An ad-hoc group of Richmond residents came together for weekly meetings to talk, plan events, and work toward the goal of a just society.
